ABOUT US

In March 2024 the board of directors of the SNF Parkway approved its bold new vision for the organization. Recognizing that the film and media landscape has been fundamentally altered by the pandemic and new non-theatrical viewing habits have taken hold, the organization’s leadership has shaped a new path forward – developing programming that more directly addresses the needs and desires of Baltimore’s diverse communities, deepens the ways in which it engages with media creators and audiences, and creates a vibrant, active space for conversation, learning, and enjoyment rooted in the moving image. Building upon decades of impactful film programming, five new pillars now anchor the SNF Parkway’s programming: Film+ events, Filmmaker Services, Live Arts, Education/Community Support, and New Media. With this new vision in place, the SNF Parkway is transforming into a hub of cultural innovation for the Baltimore community – showcasing an innovative 21st Century model for a media arts organization. Since launching the new vision in June 2024, the SNF Parkway has experienced tremendous momentum and served nearly 15,000 visitors. Recent successes include:

  • Securing over $4 million in new funding and debt relief
  • Securing nearly $300,000 to improve its exterior landscaping and ensure a safe, well-lit, and clear passage between the theater and the parking garage located two blocks south, at 1714 N Charles Street
  • Presenting a triumphant 25th iteration of our beloved Maryland Film Festival
  • Presenting nearly 50 Baltimore-made films in the iconic debut of the “Windows on Charles” initiative – a joint venture with 8 area businesses to show a diverse slate of films in storefront windows throughout the month of August
  • Forging dynamic partnerships with Mobtown Ballroom, Maryland Pride, Baltimore Comedy Festival, Central Baltimore Partnership, Center Stage, the Baltimore Orioles, Wide Angle Youth Media, and others
  • Hiring a full-time staff in the areas of Programming and Operations; a three-quarter-time Marketing professional; and secured professional finance, development and grant writing contractors
  • Hosting school groups, independent filmmaking collectives, a holiday maker’s market, and many other third-party events, as a high-quality, professionally-run, affordably priced community platform for events that promote community pride and local economy
  • Substantially diversifying its earned revenue streams, re-launching its rentals program and exceeding its budgeted goal in this area
  • Forging a partnership between several area entities to catalyze revitalization of a two-block stretch adjacent to the SNF Parkway and vital to enhancing perception of attendance at SNF Parkway events as safe and welcoming
  • Launching a vibrant filmmaker support program in partnership with area organizations including Crew Call, Baltimore Filmmakers Collective, and the JHU/MICA Film Centre
  • Receiving notable press for our accomplishments
